How I discovered Reiki
I first came across Reiki 15 years ago. I was already a masseuse and reflexologist and although I hadn’t experienced Reiki before, I decided to complete my Reiki one training, which focuses on self-healing. I loved it! So, I decided to continue up to Reiki Master and then Seichim. When you receive the attunements for the different levels, it’s like moving up from dial-up to Wifi broadband , it works faster and feels more precise.
Over the years, I have used Reiki healing in all the treatments I give because I feel it offers another level of benefit to my clients. I practise Reiki self-healing regularly – I love its flexibility and versatility.
What happens during a Reiki treatment and how can it help you?
You can give Reiki healing in person, or distantly, e.g. over the phone or absently (i.e. without any contact) . In a face-to-face session, you will lie fully clothed on a couch, and the Reiki practitioner will place their hands over different areas of your body – they may place their hands directly on you or hold them a little way from you – to release any energy blocks.
During the treatment, you maybe experience different sensations, such as the physical release of tightness perhaps in your chest or throat if you’ve been holding onto emotions or you may feel heat, pins and needles, or shivering. Your stomach may ‘gurgle’, as if you’re hungry, which indicates the energy is moving in your body. Emotions may be released, which can be a bit disconcerting, but you will feel relief. Some people give deep sighs – a sign of relaxation and acceptance of the reiki energy.
Reiki can resolve challenging and difficult situations, like family or relationship issues and can relieve symptoms of stress and anxiety, depression and emotional problems. It’s fantastic for easing aches, pains and illness and improving general wellbeing. Reiki can be used alongside traditional medical treatments, and may reduce side effects. If you’ve an important event coming up, a job interview perhaps, Reiki healing can help to support you. And, it’s not just humans who benefit -animals love Reiki! Plants are also receptive to this energy flow.
To conclude
One of the aspects I love most about this powerful and wonderful form of healing is the sense of connection after a treatment – a feeling there is something bigger and better out there. The world seems lighter! I have a spring in my step and a deeper sense of what’s important. I’m more creative and connected with myself. We live in busy times, and for me, the biggest gift of Reiki is allowing me to slow down, listen to my inner voice and have a deep sense of peace and reassurance – to just be!
