As soon as the temperature drops, the bugs go around. Three things I have in my cupboard to stave off any lurgies and keep healthy through the colder months are propolis tablets and throat spray, pollen tablets and echinacea.
Bee propolis
Often known as nature’s antibiotic – is antibacterial, antiviral, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory, and is made by bees to use as a coating for building their hives. Propolis can be taken with a preventative daily dose and, if it’s too late and you’ve already got the bug, you can just increase the dosage.
Bee's pollen
Pollen is amazing for many things, particularly energy. So if you are either fighting off a cold, or recovering from one, it is a great supplement to take, as it contains a massive amount of nutrients. It can be bought either in tablet form or as granules to sprinkle on food or put in your smoothies. I personally use the propolis and pollen tablets from Forever Living Products or buy the Bee Health brand online .
Echinacea
As with propolis, echinacea (a flowering plant in the daisy family) can be used as a preventative measure. So, if you’re seeing a lot of bugs going around, it might be worth investing in some now. It can be brought as tablets or liquid: I like the A.Vogel range.
I have to be honest and say that the taste of propolis and echinacea is not great… but they are brilliant products.
And of course the old favourite of mine to help keep your body in tip-top condition is water – and lots of it.
